Memorial Day holiday: Honor our troops

This story breaks my heart. It reminds me of my uncle who was killed in Vietnam before I was born. He was a helicopter pilot, and he and his spotter were shot down during a mission. In the past several years, I have traded e-mails with friends of my uncle who served with him, including Jim Rohrer, a friend of Uncle Dan’s who escorted him home for the funeral. When I last heard from Jim Rohrer, he was still serving his country, this time in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

I will always be grateful to all of the men and women who volunteer to serve and possibly die for our country. Before you take part in the inevitable (and always wonderful) barbecue this three-day holiday weekend, please take a moment to remember someone you know who is serving or who has served.
